So they reported that if NZ wins this game that they will automatically take over the number 1 spot. I'm not sure how they got to this conclusion give that SA is +1 up from the series after taking a 2 - 1 lead after the first test.

SA relinquished their ranking on the first test, but got it back, and then won again. So on earth can NZ claim the number 1 ranking when it is a drawn series if they win.

It looks like a win is only worth 2 points, but the difference right now

SA - 94.33
NZ - 91.90

Even if SA lose, the should still maintain their number 1 ranking as NZ would not have won the series but a draw. It is the same with any trophy, if it is a draw then the previous winning team retains the trophy.

Just another gripe on why World Rugby is bent and can't win fans over

The 94.33 vs 91.90 gap does not mean an All Blacks win simply adds two points to 91.90 while leaving South Africa roughly where they are. World Rugby uses a zero-sum points-exchange system: whatever New Zealand gains, South Africa simultaneously loses.
