let’s move on from.

It’s closing in on WC time and the AB series will be a dress rehearsal

The definites for me are

  1. Fassi

11/14. Kolbe, Arendse and Edwil vd Merwe

13/12. Moodie, Willemse and Hooker

  1. Sacha, Libbok and Pollard

  2. Williams and vd Bergh

  3. Ox, Steenkamp, Mchunu and Boan Venter

  4. Marx, Wessels, AH Venter and Grobelaar

  5. Wilco, Thomas and Porthen

4/5. Eben, RG, Cobus Wiese and Nortje

6/7/8. Kolisi, Kwagga, de Villiers, PSDT, Ruan Venter, Elrigh Louw, Roos, Hanekom and Wiese

We need to move on from Jessie, de Allende, Esterhuizen, Am, Reinach, Koch, Mostert and Lood, having moved on from Willie, Mapimpi, Faf, Malherbe, Nyakane, Bongi and Kleyn

Players that will or should push and be considered:

Siyaya, Horn and Jordan Hendrikse

Seb de Klerk, Green and Cheswill Jooste

Jurenzo Julius, David Kriel and Henco v Wyk

Yaqeen Ahmed

Pead and Papier

Hanro Jacobs, Sadie and Frans Klopper

Ruben v Heerden, Ruan Vermaak and Andre Smith

Mahashe, Pepsi, BJ Dixon, Ludwig, Vincent Tsituka, Manu Tsituka and Horn

Dave that’s a useful way of separating players. I’m still not convinced by Willemse at center and given Fassi’s slow return to form I would leave him at fullback where he shines every time.

In the centers I still believe Esterhozen, in a physical test will give us the best momentum. You may recall I have not been a Kriel fan, but nobody manages the defense better and there is no evidence that he has lost serious gas. At times I’m convinced by Moodie at 13, at times he still seems to be struggling there. Williams is a brilliant player, but still not a tactician at 9. Manie’s kicking last weekend shows again, we can only play him if somebody else does the kicking.

I pretty much agree with all your forward picks, now that you have Wessels firmly at hooker. Elrigh Louw is the one player I wouldn’t pick until he actually proves he can be effective at test level.

I prefer Willemse at 12 - it’s a hard position to make an impression but he is better equipped than any other player to make the most of 12

We need to move on from DA and AE given their ages and for me Willemse is the only obvious option. Hooker could be an option but we have not seen him there at test level

Fassi will be fine as will Elrigh Louw, but if Fassi fails then we have an absolute gem in Baby Bok Siyaya knocking the door down

The actuals below.

Papier left out, don't know why. He should be there instead of Reinach and above Krappies too I'd say.
Mostert back.
Andre the Giant back.
Much as expected.

EDIT: don't know why the post chopped the image in half.

Let's try again.

Same. Use your imaginations then, I'm too lazy to type it all. Or go check Supersport's Facebook.

Embrose Papier apparently will play in the Bulls match prior to the first test against the wee abs. He definitely should be in the squad. He is a top flight scrummie. Great pace.
hopefully the Franchises will get as many of the Boks playing as possible otherwise these games lose some value. The wee abs need to be ground down
I think Reuben van Heerden was unlucky not to make the 43 man squad after a very good test against wales.
the fixtures are:
Franchise Fixtures:
7 August: DHL Stormers vs. All Blacks at DHL Stadium, Cape Town.
11 August: Hollywoodbets Sharks vs. All Blacks at Hollywoodbets Kings Park, Durban.
15 August: Vodacom Bulls vs. All Blacks at Loftus Versfeld, Pretoria.
25 August: Emirates Lions vs. All Blacks at Ellis Park, Johannesburg.

Test Matches:
22 August: Springboks vs. All Blacks at Ellis Park, Johannesburg.
29 August: Springboks vs. All Blacks at DHL Stadium, Cape Town.
5 September: Springboks vs. All Blacks at FNB Stadium, Johannesburg.
12 September: Springboks vs. All Blacks at M&T Bank Stadium, Baltimore, USA.

This game should have been played in Chicago…..where there is a tradition of hosting big internationals including the famous Irish victory over the ABs. Likewise with the WC soccer….where Chicago had one of the earliest franchises. Sad to see a great city being ignored.

The game in the USA is sort of stupid. It could be a tour decider and it's not even played in SA. I know, money and marketing and brand exposure, bla bla. Just feels like it breaks the whole aura and rhythm of an incoming tour.
