Worst 5 Coaches: 

1. Harry Viljoen: Perhaps the most naive Bok of all time. Endeavoured to totally revamp the Bok game with running rugby. This was where it all went wrong. In light of Mallett's struggles to imitate the fast rucking and offloading game of the Brumbies, one would have thought Viljoen would approach the position more cautiously. He lasted one season. His final test saw the Boks labour hard to break down a lowly USA side.
2. Carel du Plessis: Guilty of tactical naivety which blew the Lions tour. He simply couldn't get the Boks going. Ended with a 37% record. 
3. Rudolph Straeuli: Propelled to the highest position on the back of the Shark's super rugby success, impressively reaching the final, it is now apparent that Jake White, his assistant was the more deserving candidate. Implemented a basic gameplan that could never cope with the advances in the game. His warped sense of masculinity turned the Boks into bullys, ruining the nations reputation far and wide like never before. Tarnished his reputation further with the infamous Kamp Staaldraad scandal, and dumped out of the World Cup in brutal fashion in what is the countries' worst result to date. 
4. Allister Coetzee: Another rather naive visionary who sought to turn the Boks into a slick ball-in-hand side. He presided over arguably the worst set of results in a single season as the Boks where mercilessly brushed aside. He conceded more than four years worth of tries under Jake in a single season. He began to steady the ship somewhat in his latter tests, but the damage had already been done and the writing on the wall. 
5. Peter De Villiers: He campaigned before the 2007 WC, attempting to create the necessary pressure to oust Jake White out of the position. Famously boasted of over 70 black players ready to represent the nation at the highest level. His attacking game bombed throughout 2008 as the Boks were cleaned up on the deck all season. It was apparent that he could not connect reality to what blurred vision he had in mind. The turning point was Plumtree's work at the breakdown after the Boks nearly lost against Namibia in a friendly ahead of the first Lions test, and his insistence upon Brussow being in the squad. Aside from that, there was no redeeming quality to his tenure. SARU famously kept key Boks in South Africa during the away leg of the TNs in an emergency coaching clinic to rectify Peter's failings. As it was, Rassie and Nienaber took control over the Boks for the remainder of the season. Peter was also guilty of embarrassing press conferences, which led to an ANC politician telling him to "shut up", turned on both of his assistants when advertising for replacements during the 2010 EOYT, ostracised Os du Randt, fell out with several players and insulted Australian rugby in Australia. His must surely be the worst tenure of all time. Arrogant and racist, he seemed incapable of learning, lashing out at anyone when backing himself into a corner. 

My choices are the following:-

1/2   Alister Coetzee - A total disaster as a coach who seriously damaged Springbok rugby

1/2   Heyneke Meyer - Clueless as a selector of the elderly and past their  sell-by date players based on reputation - with no regard to performance.  No real game plan - contributed to a disastrous last year as a coach  inclusive of the first ever loss to Japan and home loss to Argentina - losing all games in the RC.   At present coaching Stade Francais to a disastrous situation proving again he should never coach anything  

3   Pieter de Villiers - The players actually was the coach - he cannot even get and keep a coaching job  at school level.  Classic fool appointed as a coach 

4    Rudolph Straueli - a coach's nightmare called Staaldraad - at least reasonably good as a business manager - but one of the coaches who never knew what he was doing

Could find no reason to separate the top two as examples of inept coaches.  They both were disasters that led to serious decline n performance and loss of support for rugby as a game. The darkest years in Springbok rugby commenced in 2014 and ended only at the end of 2017. 

The maturity of Damme Lügnerin. Keeping the Boks #2 for three years, going 26 tests where only New Zealand could defeat and consecutive clean sweeps up north, big wins away in Australia in our third worst venue for the first time in over a decade yet he is joint worst! 

He achieved this after inheriting a team that lost Du Preez, Schalk, Brussow, Fourie, Butch, Rossouw, Smit, Victor, Bakkies and a host of other injuries etc. 

Lügnerin, you are a laugh a minute. And despite moaning about him not expanding the player pool he left Rassie Thor, Steph, Malherbe, Eben, Kriel, Damian, Lood, Pollard, Kolisi, Willie, Louw, Reinach, Nyakane. I may be missing a name or two. How many of those were "core Boks" in the recent final? 

Not only that, you gloss over 2000 to 2003 as dark years. 2017 was better than 2018, 2014 was better than 2018 too. So too 2015. You just shot yourself in the foot! You are a very poor defender of J-Raz.

No AO - fact is Meyer brought back a lot of retirees and at least 7 of those mentioned by you,   That killed gaining of experience by new players and by the time of the WC in 2015 he had 8 unplayable players in the 31 member squad and November 2014 was the beginning of the Springbok disaster period.  By 2018 the pool of players you are referring to all suffered through the Japan and RC of 2015 and became dispirited with a serious decline in confidence in themselves and with total doubt about any game plan situation.   The worst coach I have ever seen as a Springbok coach and the present Stade Francais coaching disaster is what to expect from an inept  coach Meyer was.  

The lunatic who claimed that the players played worse in the RC and WC in 2019 than in 2015 ignoring the fact that in the 2015 RC the Springboks lost all matches and in the WC the team losses include Japan.  AO apparently still believe that by selective stats he can prove that the Springboks did not win the RC and WC in 2019 - fools paradise.   No egg prescribed in this case - but stupid pills would relieve the level of stupidity slightly - the loony bin may solve part of the delusion problem.          

Incorrect, he left many new caps with lots of test and camp experience. There were some cases where he went for experience after the youth he tried floundered. He blooded a lot of players. Too many as far as I'm concerned.

Another Lügnerin fable. You weave y our own narrative into the facts to create a false perception to deceive people. Meyer's Boks grew in confidence after that loss.

Apparently, I said no such thing. Your immediate action after this year's RC was to attack the 2015 campaign. I corrected the litany of errors that spewed out of your mouth. I say errors, but we all know you better than that. Lies. You can't help yourself and over-extend your argument to promote Rassie as something that isn't true. The 2019 easier. That's not an opinion, that's a fact. The 2015 Boks were significantly more productive on attack. Again, that's not an opinion, that's a fact. I've already established these things several times. Rassie's Boks do not compare well to the production of Meyer's Boks or the 2017 team. That's not an opinion, that's a fact. So, as I've said before, cease with this dreadful comparisons. It isn't doing you any good. But then, you are not a Bok fan, you are Rassie fan. That's the difference between you and I.

Shall we recall your statement that the 2013 Bok's tries weren't "real" tries? That their wins were "moral losses"? You took something tangibly true and invalidated it. You directly diminished the Bok's achievements in what is their most impressive season to date because you hate the players and the coach. We're I to have done likewise, I'd have attacked the team's results claiming they really lost the World Cup etc. Do you see how much of a hypocrite you are? Where you always so dishonest? You sound like the reincarnation of Charles Darwin.

Now you can run along and weep at the foot of your J-Raz wall scroll and tell him about all the nasty mean wounds I inflicted upon your weary little soul. 

I merely referred to the truth that had real rugby lovers into mourning and the idiot then tried to  prove that the RC winners of 2019 was useless,   That continued when the Springboks won the WC series,  There was no reference when the scumbag started to belittle the performance of the Springboks in the WC.

His normal style was always to write praise songs of Meyer and even Coetzee and stated that compared to them Erasmus is a poor  coach,

As I said so many times before, were you to have merely basked in the win, we wouldn't even be having these discussions. Before I had watched the final, before I even logged in, you already had a thread posted targeting me and Meyer. What did you expect would happen? You put a bullseye on your forehead and I obliged. Stop promoting Rassie with errant information and you won't end up in tears, it's that simple. Perhaps consult a periodontist and have that second tongue removed. Whatever it takes to move forward. You are just going to have to accept that I am never going to be a Rassie fan. I'm a Bok fan, not a Rassie fan. If you keep pushing this Rassie nonsense you'll keep being refuted.
