Cam Roigard is set for only his second showdown with the Boks, following his previous encounter in 2023. He will be paired with Ruben Love in the halfback position, while Jordie Barrett and Quinn Tupaea continue to fortify the midfield.
The back three is rounded out by Josh Moorby, alongside Jordan and McKenzie, marking Moorby’s inaugural clash against the South African team. Savea, stepping in at No 8, reaches a milestone with his 110th Test cap, a feat matched by hooker Codie Taylor.
Joining the forwards, Ethan de Groot and Tyrel Lomax will serve in the front row with Taylor. In the locks, Josh Lord teams up with Fabian Holland. The loose trio will feature Tupou Vaa'i and Luke Jacobson alongside the formidable Savea.
“After all the build-up and anticipation, our whole touring squad is excited to get this first Test underway,” Rennie said. “We have selected a balanced mix of big-match, experienced players and younger players who have earned the right to play in this first Test.”
Rennie highlighted the importance of the initial franchise games in South Africa, praising their role in acclimating the newer players to South African play styles and aiding in team synergy and strategic development.
With the Springboks defending their turf as the world's top-ranked team, Rennie acknowledged the massive challenge ahead.
“They are No 1 in the world, playing at their spiritual home in front of their passionate fans, so we will have to be at our very best on Saturday.”
