Boks Stun All Blacks, Donald Eats Words
Former All Blacks star Stephen Donald was forced to swallow his previous boasts following the Springboks' dominant 3-1 victory in the latest Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry series. Donald had boldly claimed the All Blacks would sweep the initial three Tests, following their flawless run in the Nations Championship, blatantly dismissing South Africa's chances even on their own turf.

Before the series concluded in Baltimore at the packed M&T Bank Stadium, Donald confidently remarked on Sky Sport’s The Breakdown, "We might give the Boks the American one; just we might be sick of winning by then." The question now stands, how does Donald feel after the Springboks' resounding series win?

"We might give the Boks the American one; just we might be sick of winning by then."

Post-match, in a lighter tone on The Aftermatch with Kirst & Beav podcast, he conceded with a chuckle to co-host Kirsti Stanway, "Let’s cut ourselves some slack. We were actually accurate. We said they’d win Baltimore. We didn’t say we were going to give them Cape Town and Joburg as well, but so be it. The Springboks were too good at the weekend."

The series finale saw the world champions, the Springboks, putting on a thrilling display, crossing the try line six times in a decisive 43-28 victory. Donald was left astounded by their performance, particularly highlighting their strategic play beyond mere kicking.

"Their basics again were outstanding. Once they get into the 22, it’s like they just get a little bit of a shot of adrenaline or something and they just go mad in that 22. The speed with which they get around the corner and carry and clean rucks."

In further praise of individual brilliance, Donald spotlighted Kurt-Lee Arendse's remarkable agility and game impact, noting how he shined especially in the absence of star player Cheslin Kolbe. "If Cheslin Kolbe wasn’t around, all the attention would be there. In some strange way, all the game usually goes to Cheslin Kolbe’s side, and it’s just every now and again when he’s not there, you get to appreciate just how special Arendse is," he admitted.

Despite the playful banter and light-hearted jabs, the series showcased intense competition and high skill levels, cementing its place as a premiere event in international rugby. The Springboks' series win not only served as a reminder of their enduring prowess but also proved to be a humble pie for critics and opponents alike, with Stephen Donald being no exception.

Hahahahahaha. Donald is clearly a Mampara. But one big enough to admit he got it wrong. Our resident Mamparas are hard core. Our Mamparas are still sniping at Rassie, Du Toit and Allende and the Boks. But there are some signs of softening their almost decades long mampara takes on issues. They are Coping as best they can.
