Boks Update on Siya, Ox Injuries Before Test
Felix Jones, the Springboks' assistant coach, has updated the fitness status of Siya Kolisi and Ox Nché ahead of their upcoming clash. He confirms both players are slated to potentially join the line-up for the inaugural Test against the All Blacks at Ellis Park this Saturday, pending a final pre-announcement training session.

"Both are tracking pretty good," Jones noted. "There's been no flags or issues from what we've seen today in training."

"We'd still have another session around the week, but there's been nothing majorly negative coming out of either of their recovery plans."

On the strategic front, Jones disclosed that insights from South Africa’s URC clubs have been instrumental. These local insights have been enriching the team's preparations, reconfirming observations from the Nations Championship and unveiling nuanced tactics observed within league play.

"Luckily, we've got a good relationship with the [sides] and all of us as coaches chat pretty regularly," he explained. Insights from these dialogues have highlighted certain trends, especially concerning actions at the breakdown and scoring opportunities near the try-line, which haven't always translated into points due to fierce resistance.

Regarding the scrum, Jones commented on the recent focus. "There’s been a push this week for a credible feed," he affirmed, addressing the concerns raised during the Nations Championship about scrum practices.

Moreover, Jones touched upon a pioneering training approach now being experimented with by the Boks. A new virtual training tool is being tested to enhance player response to contestable kicks. This initiative forms part of broader efforts to maintain the team's competitive edge through technological innovation.

"It's like a simulation of trying to actually gather loose balls from contestable kicks," Jones elaborated. "We think there's something in it, and we'll keep enjoying it."

In reflection on the broader contributions to the team's strength, Jones praised the efforts of Junior Boks coach Kevin Foote and SA Rugby general manager of high performance Dave Wessels, among others. Their ongoing development of talent continues to infuse the national team with skilled and motivated players, sustaining its competitive prowess.

The culture within the squad, a blend of dedication and continuous improvement, is a core element of the Springboks' enduring success. "The guys all really care. They want to play, and they’re already buying in," Jones concluded, hinting at the high spirits and unity within the camp.

With focused training sessions, innovative strategies, and a deep bench of talent, the Springboks are gearing up not just to face, but to challenge the All Blacks with what Jones predicts as a 'big bang' in rugby performance.
