Last season, the player nicknamed 'The General' collected a total of 154 points across 18 URC matches, helping the Lions reach the quarter-finals for the first time. Additionally, he racked up 28 points from just three appearances in the EPCR Challenge Cup.
Smith's prowess was on full display in the Lions' narrow 41-35 defeat against the touring All Blacks last month, where he successfully converted all five tries. Continuing his fine form, he converted all three tries and scored two penalty goals in the Lions' season-opener against Leinster at Ellis Park, securing a win.
Prior to his tenure with the Lions, Smith began his senior rugby career with the Pumas before a five-year stint with the Bulls, enhancing his reputation as a reliable playmaker.
