Dave Rennie, coach of the All Blacks, has expressed his commitment to fielding a strong team for the upcoming Bledisloe Cup matches against the Wallabies. Rennie's strategy contrasts sharply with Rassie Erasmus of the Boks, who recently rotated 13 players in his team, resulting in a 42-38 loss against Perth. Rennie emphasized the significance of the Bledisloe Cup and his respect for the Wallabies by opting for a consistent lineup for the clashes at Eden Park and Stadium Australia on October 10 and 17, respectively.
"We're still big on earning the right to play and so the Bledisloe Cup matches are important to us and important to the Wallabies as well," Rennie remarked. He further stressed the importance of selecting the best squad possible to honor the competitive spirit of the Wallabies.
"So we'll pay them the respect they deserve in regard to picking the best squad possible."
The All Blacks face some challenges with captain Ardie Savea out for the season following shoulder surgery, and flyhalf Ruben Love also sidelined due to injury. Despite these setbacks and coming off three consecutive defeats to the Boks, New Zealand aims to reclaim their dominance, starting with their undefeated streak at Eden Park since 1994. Meanwhile, under coach Les Kiss, Australia has maintained an unbeaten run in their last five Tests.
Rennie, who previously coached the Wallabies from 2020 to 2022, understands the difficulty of winning at Eden Park. He highlighted the need for peak performance and seizing crucial moments in such high-stakes matches. "International rugby now is tight, there are so many good sides that are all pretty close. You have to get it right and win those key moments," Rennie explained, preparing for a formidable contest in Auckland.
"I never felt there was a lack of mindset or determination," Rennie said of his time with Australia. "In those sorts of games you have got to be at your best and win key moments."
As the teams gear up for these pivotal matches, the scrutiny will also be on the Boks as they face the Wallabies in their 100th Test, highlighting a busy and critical period in international rugby.
