Fehi Fineanganofo has opted to extend his stay in New Zealand, pushing back his planned transfer to the Newcastle Red Bulls until after the 2027 Rugby World Cup. This decision follows his signing of a new contract with the Hurricanes and New Zealand Rugby (NZR), solidifying his availability for the national team's World Cup campaign.
The 24-year-old winger, initially set to start his tenure with the Red Bulls this season, reconsidered his move following a significant career milestone—receiving his maiden call-up to the All Blacks. His performance in the Nations Championship and the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry tour evidently sealed his commitment to continue his rugby career in his homeland for now.
Fineanganofo expressed his enthusiasm about staying in New Zealand.
"I’m excited to be staying in New Zealand with the Hurricanes for next season. I’m proud of what we achieved last season, and I’m looking forward to helping defend the Super Rugby title while continuing to put my hand up for the All Blacks ahead of the Rugby World Cup."
He also acknowledged the support from his would-be team overseas.
