Some of the players on the pitch were not test standard. The individual error rate was too high.
Jantjies is about the 6th-best scrumhalf we have, if that. Crappies made an instant improvement when he got onto the pitch.
The Van Staden experiment was a disaster. Hanekom should have started. Australia move the ball around a lot, so having a more mobile and skilful player on the pitch is essential.
The scrum was toothless against the Aussies.... The starting front row was easily countered, and the scrum was a non-contest until the bench got on.
The high ball was not a weapon against Australia with their Aussie rules background. When their was 11 players on the pitch, the Boks still kicked which makes no sense. They should have just kept the ball in hand and won penalties or phase play attack.
Pollard is done. At best, he is a wet-weather player, but the next World Cup is in Australia, which usually has dry, fast conditions. Libbok could have started with Sasha on the bench, or the other way around. We may even need to find a replacement third choice for Pollard.
Watch out for Jaqeen Ahmed as replacement for Pollard - he made a huge dffereince when he came on for the Stormers against Connacht.
So some players were tested and didn't quite cut it.
BUT even with this team if you played them regularly they would improve.
Oz are a better side than some think.
The question now which players will be culled and which players does Rassie still think can make it.
There are indeed a few who should never see another cap. In the front of that Q is useless Lood, a forward with so much potential and promise... unfortunately he has never delivered against a tier 1 team.
Esterhu,izen should never play as center for the Springboks again - he is a better replacement loosie than he is a center where he destroyed he Sharks last year, There was very much wrong with the team - to start with super-dud Van Staaden
There's a gun pointing at Rassies's head, it carries a single bullet...... initials ER.......if Rassie doesn't pick him as a permanent fixture the gun is going to go off.
After the team was announced I said there were 5 players that wouldn't make my team..........make that 8.
Rassie can draw benefit from the game by culling his squad which I guess goes to prove the objective of his selections for this game.
