China and America agree that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon. In a world where the UN has become less relevant, getting the only two major powers to agree to this ban is important in many ways.

Firstly it could be the start of other bilateral agreements that could actually be practical.

Secondly it clearly marks Iran as a rogue nation.

Thirdly it lowers the tension between the two super powers and given Iran is more important to China, represents a concession

Fourthly it establishes a precedent on nuclear proliferation.

The other things that were agreed were easier, but a start on AI is also important There was some human contact that can’t be underestimated. You had Iranian leaders talking directly on American media. The missing elephant not in the room was Vladimir.

Trumpian logic. Build an argument based on a fallacy or a lie, then form conclusions based on it. (E.g. if 1 +1 = 3, then XYZ).

China have never made a statement explicitly saying Iran must never have a nuke. Trump also claimed that King Charles said Iran must never have a nuke. It is just putting words in people's mouths.

China repeatedly tells Trump and America that they are a nation in decline. Strong GDP, but the wealth is accumulating in fewer hands, and education is declining and with that, average IQ. China bullied Trump in front of the world; they had a plan for him and expected his sanctions.

By the way, China is helping Iran in the war, and so is Russia.

Other than Trump saying the meeting was fantastic as usual, there are no tangible outcomes.
China will continue to distil OpenAI and Anthropic to provide a low-cost way of training their AI systems, and then undercut American models on price. China will improve its hardware to catch up with Nvidia, and at that point could move past American models, as they can now do their own AI training.. Many American companies are already using open-source Chinese models with API access that is about 30 times cheaper.

America already set a precedent on nuclear proliferation when it bombed Japan. And more recently, with Trump threatening to destroy an entire civilisation (presumably with nukes).
America is the world's rogue nation. Even Russia has higher global poll ratings.

Key Details of the Agreement
• Nuclear Stance: During high-level bilateral summits (including discussions reaffirmed during diplomatic exchanges), both Washington and Beijing aligned on the position that Iran must fulfill its commitments not to develop or acquire nuclear weapons.
• Strait of Hormuz & Waterways: Trump and Xi agreed that no country or entity should be permitted to charge transit tolls or block the free flow of energy and commerce through vital international waterways like the Strait of Hormuz.
• Chinese Commitments: President Trump stated that Xi assured him China would not supply military equipment to Iran, though questions remain regarding broader economic lifelines such as Chinese purchases of Iranian oil.
• Broader Context: The alignment represents a notable rhetorical agreement between the U.S. and China on Middle Eastern security and freedom of navigation, given their historically divergent stances on regional conflicts.

…..

Good stuff…..but the TDS set can’t deal with it. What else is new.

Urgent: Xi, Trump agree Iran should fulfill commitment not to develop nuclear weapons

WASHINGTON, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump have agreed that Iran should fulfill its commitment not to develop nuclear weapons, according to a release made public after Xi wrapped up his state visit to the United States on Friday.
The two leaders also agreed that no country or institution shall charge transit fees for passage through international waterways.
During the three-day visit, Xi and Trump exchanged in-depth views on bilateral relations as well as major international and regional issues. ■

That is simply re-reporting. Note the key phrase: "according to a release made public after Xi wrapped up his state visit to the United States on Friday."

Re-reporting treats the original publication itself as the event being covered. For example, suppose Newspaper A reports that a person has ten arms. Newspaper B then publishes an article stating that Newspaper A reported that the person has ten arms. Newspaper B is not claiming that the person has ten arms; it is reporting on Newspaper A's article as the event itself.

Given that China were the other country at the meeting, they are the best people to confirm what they actually agreed. Not reposting Trump's BS

China and the United States reach eight deliverables and understandings

Source: XinhuaEditor: huaxia2026-09-26 21:51:15

WASHINGTON, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- From Sept. 23 to 25 local time, Chinese President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to the United States. During the visit, the two heads of state had in-depth discussions on the constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability and major international and regional issues, and reached eight deliverables and understandings:

  1. The two sides agree to build "a constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability on the basis of respect, fairness, and reciprocity."
  2. China and the United States support each other in successfully hosting the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting and the G20 Summit. The two heads of state intend to attend each other's meetings.
  3. The two heads of state agree that Iran should honor its commitment to not developing nuclear weapons, and no country or institution can be allowed to impose tolls on international waterways.
  4. The two heads of state recall that China and the U.S. were allies in World War II and fought side by side to win the war.
  5. The two heads of state recognize the positive role of the China-U.S. economic and trade consultation mechanism, endorse the outcomes of the consultations between the two economic and trade teams, including establishing and taking forward the Board of Trade and other mechanisms, reaching an arrangement for a 30-billion-U.S.-dollar reciprocal tariff reduction, and the extension of the outcomes of economic and trade consultations in Kuala Lumpur, and give instructions that they be implemented.
  6. The two sides note that cooperation between the counter-narcotics and law enforcement agencies of China and the U.S. has produced visible outcomes. Recently, the two sides working closely together have jointly cracked multiple cases involving New Psychoactive Substances (NPS) and precursor chemicals, and apprehended dozens of relevant criminal suspects in the two countries.
  7. The two sides agree on the establishment of the China-U.S. AI Dialogue to exchange views on risks and benefits related to AI. The next exchange will occur in November 2026. China and the U.S. also agree to establish a bilateral communication channel for AI incidents.
  8. The United States welcomes the arrival of two giant pandas, leased by China to Zoo Atlanta.
In addition, the Chinese and U.S. militaries agree to conclude a memorandum of understanding on crisis communication and prevention as soon as possible, and continue their cooperation to search for the remains of missing U.S. servicemembers in China

@Mozart If Trump was only concerned about the Mid Terms he would never have taken on the Iran nuclear issue
Wrong.
It’s been said many times and proven that he had no plan beyond bombing Iran, expecting it to be over in two weeks. Within days of starting the war, Trump declared victory, claiming he’d destroyed their military, navy, and leadership. The expectation of Iran backing down hasn’t come to pass, leaving America out of pocket by $45B, the global economy in turmoil, and long-standing allies cast aside.
You’re a delusional fella, just like your hero. Seven months have passed, and the so-called best military in the world has been humbled. Russia, China, and even North Korea are laughing at Trump. His cowboy approach has proven to be a complete failure. So, tell us, Moffie—what exactly is dripping down you and your hero’s face? I’m pretty sure it’s not egg.

You never even had the sense to check Mid Term history…..and so now you are plastered with egg yet again.

Oh the irony, because you never had the sense to check China's stance since the 2000's on Iran's obtaining a nuclear weapon which drum roll please has been consistently that Iran should not developer a nuclear weapon.

But of course you're never going to acknowledge that completely undermines the premise of your original post.

*But of course you would probably be delighted if Trump was to fail in Iran …..and your measure of failure is obviously losing in the Mid Terms….totally missing this is usual and highly likely given the effort to stop Iran, something the average voter doesn’t understand. *

And here we can see the groundwork being laid for the shifting of the blame. If Trump is forced after the midterms by congress to bring the war to an end, Trump and the Republicans will forever push the narrative that Iran was about to surrender but the democrats let them off the hook.

Yet another example of Trump and the MAGA-sphere never acknowledging their mistakes let alone accepting blame for them.

It's simply speculation on your part. Iran has it's own agency. The Iranian peace proposal may have been entirely it's own initiative.

And absolutely they will ignore China if they feel their survival is at stake. This perception that the American right has everything is ultimately about money leads to all sorts of miscalculations. By that logic Putin should never have invaded Ukraine and upset it's biggest customers in Europe.

China views on Iran haven't changed.
China is against Iran building a nuclear weapon and is against nuclear proliferation.
China supports Iran's right to have a civilian nuclear program, believing it can be monitored by international observers.
China is against the introduction of tolls or charges for the passage of ships through international water ways.
China is against the US military action against Iran and supports a diplomatic solution.
China is against the US blockade of Iran.

They have held these views consistently well before the UN summit last week. They are zero indication they are going to suddenly shift to views more aligned with America.

"As for using Chat, I have no problem at all when you use it to establish facts. But when you are unable to come up with counter arguments in a debate and use Chat to do that for you, you are no longer the debater."

I pointed out the logical flaws with your OP. Instead of acknowledging them you rephrased your hypothesis then shoved it into chatgpt as a sort of leading question. I have no doubt I could phrase a line of questioning into chat that implies that the US achieved very little diplomatically at the UN summit and get chat to agree with that.

But away from A.I. From looking at media analysis from around the world, the general consensus on the UN summit is that on the US-Iran war the needle barely moved, that nothing of significance was achieved and that China was the country that did the best diplomatically as it was able to present to the world an image of a balanced negotiator in the conflict.

"But please don’t lead with China has no way to influence Iran"

Where did I say that Captain strawman?

"ROFL"

Got love the sheer obnoxiousness of these post sign offs.

@Stavanger1

Sorry - but there has been strings of negotiations - between the USA and Iran - but they led to nothing because nobody knows who is really in charge in that country. As soon as agreement is reached something else - like helping the Houthi terrorists to attack the Saudi's. So will the present negotiations work? Probably because the Iran economy is near to collapse and if that happen the people will take their revenge on the regime - so they may at this stage be honest - but nobody knows.

@Stavanger1 …it’s not history. This year the US is spending $50 billion on defensive activities primarily benefitting Europe. NATO primarily defends Europe….the US has its nuclear arsenal and the Oceans that do the job. NATO is just a mechanism for most efficiently allowing the US to guarantee Europe’s safety. Which it’s done for 80 years and is still doing.

Regardless of Europe’s views of Trump, it should be grateful to the US, the country.

As for your negative views about a country you probably haven’t visited….just your jealousy of Irish people who have come over here and succeeded

Here’s the thing: the two non-negotiable issues are no nukes and free transit through the Strait. The White House should put those at the top of the agenda and present them to Iran. Start there. Once Iran agrees to these terms, negotiations can begin. Why waste time discussing something that’s non-negotiable?
