Desperate defence from the Stompies as Ulster are so close . . . but they're over. Yellow for one of the Stompies as well. Not sure who. That could be game.

Last chance for Stompies . . . Zas is over but hasn't got the strength to dot down. Pretty poor I reckon. Any winger worth his salt should have scored that.

They're checking for a high tackle. This could be a penalty try.

No, hang, on, there is contact to the head. Doak is carded and the penalty try is given. Stompies get a draw at the death. Is there time for the kickoff? Yes. . . .

Man that was a dubious penalty try…..these double tackles, low and high, are almost impossible without significant chance of head contact.

Ridiculous penalty try. Of course the tackler is going to try and wrap the runner there and control the ball, and you can't do that any other way than he did. Totally benign tackle made to look worse by Zas dipping into it. No contest for the ball allowed, essentially, just let the guy score? Zas taking the contact there when he had ample space to the touchline to score it clean is nuts, he didn't deserve to get the points there.

Without Sacha, where are these Stormers? They're playing well, but so much good that happened was centered around him. They wouldn't have been close otherwise.

lol the comments on the highlights video are are pretty scathing.

Some highlights....

  1. "That was a brilliant try saving tackle"

A lot of comments from Stormers fans about the tackle. None of them say "It swings in roundabouts". They're all pretty definitive in that in was a shit call on an excellent try saving tackle. Well done Stompie fans.

  1. "Roos trying to make sure the Boks don't select him."

It's incredible that a guy wants to be selected to play for the Boks but he carries on like that.

Moz, you're 100% when you say Kwagga's brain in Roos' body would be a great player.

And here's one of my favourites.

  1. "I hope a Rassie picks Augustus, he looks like the perfect replacement for Wiese."

I don't know about a replacement for Wiese but in terms of style, he's probably the closest to Wiese that I can think of. They mentioned on commentary that he moved to Ulster specifically so that he can be seen while playing against Saffa teams. He was so unlucky to get injured last year.

All in all another frustrating Stormers game.

Ulster's second last try was a gem though. There must have been about 30 passes from start to finish.

"That was a brilliant try saving tackle"

I've said it before, there has to be a nuance to these calls - and we have seen some refs actually apply it, so it is possible. The one size fits all "head contact so card and penalty" belies the nature of a contact sport. Doak was at shoulder height and wrapping at chest height, he couldn't in a split second adjust to Zas tilting lower into him and turning it into a head situation. There was zero danger to the player, zero malice, it's a side on hit, not even frontal so it's glancing contact to boot. It was a fair contest and should have been ruled as such.

We also note that Moz is on his cruise now so will miss the Lions game...as though Starlink doesn't exist.

I imagine him having to retire to his quarters and watch the game on the high seas, simply to appease us.

May as well lean into it Moz. Get the tablet up with the game, your phone on Ruckers and room service.

I watched most of the game. But was not impressed with Roos today. Yes, he got a try, but on 2 occasions either lost the ball in contact near the try line or conceded a stupid off the ball penalty. He seems to lack brains when it comes to being alert around the ruck

Was a penalty try all day. I mean Doak was very unlucky... obviously it wasn't intentional on his part he and it was so close to it being a great try stopping and match winning tackle, but there was head contact, so it was foul play and without that foul a try would of been scored so penalty try was the correct call.

Fun match overall.

Do we think that Dobson has learned his lesson with Gelant yet?

Fine, Nel was injured, but that doesn't mean, certainly not on form, that Gelant should have been picked. He's been horrendous all year. Out of the last six or so games, I can recall one where he wasn't a liability.

Yesterday he caused Ulster's first try. Then he totally screwed up a high ball and that lead to another try. Then he knocked the ball in a position that was looking like a try. Then he got dummied by a bloody prop that lead to yet another try for Ulster. I'd put money on Willemse making none of those errors on the day.

It honestly baffles me how Gelant is even considered a pro.

Looks like some of our streaming sites have been blocked for access from SA - when I go in with a proxy server they work. We need a proper on demand rugby streaming service in this country.

I don't get this constant critique of the Stormers on this site....they and Dobo get more flack than any other team ..yes Gelant is k@k but managing a team from Cape Town have some additional challenges... I'm sure there's a lot of pressure on Dobs not to drap Warries Gelant ...the Stormers had a great season, why all this nonsensical gepis en kerm the whole time?

That was a penalty try all day, trying to somehow claim that it's not is ridiculous...it is unfortunately what rugby has become...moaning about it is salty horse manure, shaded by some sour grapes.

The Bools lost to Ulster 28-7, the Sharks lost to them in Dirt in ..and although the lions had a good win against them in Joburg, there's some context to it....Ulster is a good team.... drawing against them in Ireland this time of the season is a good result...fuck, I don't get it.

Fair comment, Draad.

Still don't agree with the penalty try, though, but due to my own personal reasons which are moot. Letter of the law is all we have, and for that you guys calling it fair is correct.

Draad, we complain about the Stompies because they can do so much better and it's just disappointing to see how scrappy they have to be.

For me, Willemse and Sacha are two of the best backs in the competition and yet the Stormers can get them firing.

How is that even possible?

The problem with that argument is you can apply it to every team in the league. The Stormers are 1 point off the top of the table, with a better points scored difference than the team above them. The Stormers are a good team. Are they perfect no... is their manager no, but their is no flawless teams and flawless managers.

Just enjoy how competitive the league is and get behind your teams!
