Immanuel Feyi-Waboso: England's World Cup Force
Exeter Chiefs' director of rugby, Rob Baxter, is full of praise for Immanuel Feyi-Waboso, expressing confidence in the winger's potential to become a significant asset for England in next year's Rugby World Cup. This confidence comes as Feyi-Waboso aims to cement his place in Steve Borthwick’s squad, especially given his strong performance this season.

Despite encountering several setbacks in 2025 due to injuries and suspensions, Immanuel Feyi-Waboso has once again established himself as a key player in Borthwick's setup. This season, he has made seven Test appearances during the Autumn Nations Series and the Nations Championship, recording four tries. Additionally, his club form has been robust, with 21 appearances and 14 tries across all competitions for Exeter.

However, the road has not been smooth for Feyi-Waboso. He missed the crucial 2026 Six Nations due to a hamstring injury, which also troubled him early in the PREM season. Further complications arose when he suffered a fractured jaw, causing him to miss significant matches, including Exeter’s victories over Saracens and Bath.

"I think just a good, consistent season would do him the world of good. That’s what he really needs; he needs to play, and the more he plays, the better he gets. That gives him real match fitness and sharpness."

Baxter underscored the importance of regular playtime for Feyi-Waboso, noting significant improvements in match fitness and sharpness with more game time. He highlighted Feyi-Waboso's exceptional performance in a pre-season friendly against Cardiff, where his pace and agility came to the fore, predicting a strong return in the upcoming game against Gloucester.

Feyi-Waboso's resilience is also noteworthy. Despite the frequency of his injuries, he has worked tirelessly with physiotherapists and strength and conditioning teams to build his robustness, a trait that Baxter believes will be evident as the season progresses. This rigorous rehabilitation process not only helps him maintain his physical condition but also prepares him for the challenges ahead.

"He was pretty good against Cardiff. He came up with those good moments that he always does, and he’s got fantastic pace and ability to beat people. We’re looking forward to him playing again this week with more game time under his belt. He certainly improves with game time."

The anticipation for what Feyi-Waboso could bring to the England team is palpable, both in the autumn internationals and the World Cup later in the year. His ability to impact games through sheer pace and skill places him as a potentially pivotal player for England, should he maintain his form and fitness.

This season will be critical for Feyi-Waboso. A consistent, injury-free run could indeed make him a formidable force in international rugby, much to the excitement of fans and the benefit of the England squad as they prepare for the global stage next year.
