The US and Denmark have announced a deal on Greenland's security, resolving a diplomatic dispute sparked by President Donald Trump's threats to seize it by force.
Nato said the deal would help stabilise the region, as Trump said Denmark would grant the US "permanent control over security, and all other needs" in the semi-autonomous Danish territory.
The leaders of Denmark and Greenland welcomed the deal to "strengthen security", which they said was expected to be signed next week, but did not outline its contents.
The deal comes after months of threats by Trump to "take" Greenland over national security concerns, citing its strategic location for defence purposes and its mineral wealth.
No text of the agreement has been released. Trump said the deal came with "no cost to the United States" and would grant it the ability "to do what is necessary" to "secure and defend the security of Greenland", in a post on Truth Social.
He said it included a rule that no US adversary could maintain a military presence in Greenland or "make sensitive investments in Greenland, without our express written approval".
A Nato spokesperson said the military alliance welcomed the deal, which would "help advance security, stability and cooperation in this vital region".
Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said she was "pleased that there is a prospect of a good agreement" for all three parties, which was expected to be signed at the UN General Assembly next week.

Truth be told Greenland and Denmark were threatened and bullied into submission by Emperor Trump.

Still baffled as to why Trump didn't just go to Denmark and Greenland last year and say them as part of our long standing treaty I'd like to increase the US military presence on Greenland.

To which Denmark and Greenland would of said, sure no problem.

Oh by the way I'd like assurances that no states hostile to America will every be permitted to establish an economic or military presence on Greenland.

All of this could of been done with couple of days of low key diplomacy. But no Trump had to do it the hard way for absolutely no reason.

Excellent video….totally captures the difference between political animals like Macron and somebody who is willing to act. All the agonizing words about the US taking Greenland. They knew it was never going to happen, but immediately politicized it.

Western leaders apart from Trump are just beginning to realize it’s a new day, there is a challenge from China, India and Russia to the status quo. But they still aren’t serious….it’s still mostly politics.

Trump says many things that make me cringe. And he has so many balls in the air that one is bound to disagree with some of them. But he is tackling all the neglected issues which have been festering. Tackling these things are messy and few Western leaders have ever had to function with so much hate and obstruction.
