No one thinks that's possible through say an air campaign alone. There would have to be a ground invasion force to take over and occupy Iran.
Iran has a population of over 90 million. It's 4 times the size of Iraq. It's terrain is highly mountainous consider ideal terrain for a defending force.
Any such invasion would require hundreds of thousands of troops at a minimum. Building up a such a force would take time, several months at least. Will the Straights remain closed for all that time?
So then this forces invades, we have potential thousands of the invading force taking causalities. Tens to hundreds of thousands of Iranian military and IRGC possible needing to be killed. A similar number of civilians possible killed in the crossfire.
Then how will the conflict last for and long does such an invasion force need to stay afters. Who's going to pay for it? How long will it take to at least re-open the straights of Hormuz. What happens if Iran hits the water salination plants of it's Gulf neighbours forcing an unprecedented mass evacuation of tens of millions of Arabs/Muslims from the Guld and the complete collapse of the oil economies of those countries along in addition to the severe constraints it would put on the supply of fertilizer resulting in potential famines and mass starvations around the world? Is the US going to take in all these refugees?
